Analysis and control of transient torque response in engines with internal exhaust gas recirculation

چکیده
In this paper we analyze the nonlinear dynamic behavior of an internal exhaust gas recirculation system based on a mean-value model of an experimental automotive engine equipped with a camshaft phaser. We develop a control scheme that adjusts camshaft timing to reduce feedgas emissions while maintaining transient engine torque response similar to that of a conventional engine with zero exhaust gas recirculation. The control scheme consists of a feedforward map that specifies desired camshaft timing as a function of throttle position and engine speed in steady state, and a first-order lag that governs the transition of the camshaft timing to the desired value. The time constant of the first-order lag is adjusted based on engine speed and throttle position.

متن کاملControl of Charge Dilution in Turbocharged CIDI Engines via Exhaust Valve Timing
ABSTRACT Stringent NOx and particulate emission constraints require high levels of exhaust gas recirculation. In this paper we model and analyze a Variable Valve Timing methodology that in steady-state achieves large levels of internal Exhaust Gas Recirculation (iEGR) or residual charge in Compression Ignition Direct Injection (CIDI) engines. Current external Exhaust Gas Recirculation (eEGR) te...

This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation on the effect of the EGR on the pollutants emission, especially on oxides of nitrogen, from the exhaust gases and performance of the spark ignition engine. Also along with experimental work, a mathematical model for the determination of the effect of EGR on the peak cycle temperature and for the prediction of its effect on the NOx ...
متن کاملTheoretical Investigation of Combustion Process in Dual Fuel Engines at Part Load Considering the Effect of Exhaust Gas Recirculation
The dual fuel engines at part loads inevitably suffer from lower thermal efficiency and higher carbon monoxide and unburned fuel emission. This work is carried out to investigate combustion characteristics of a dual fuel (dieselgas) engine at part loads, using a single zone combustion model with detailed chemical kinetics for combustion of natural gas fuel. The authors developed software in ...
متن کاملModel Predictive Control for Automotive Engine Torque considering Internal Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Abstract: The present paper introduces a control oriented model based on air and burned gas flows for automotive engines with variable valves. Moreover, a predictive controller is proposed by using the obtained model. For the engines with variable valves, the intake valve lift enables the quick torque response; on the other hand, the large valves’ overlap may cause a misfiring of combustion bec...
